California Dreaming

We are taking Finn to San Francisco to see our friends and Bil's brother in just a few weeks. We haven't been since Finn was 5 months old. Needless to say, we are very excited to see everyone and the city of course. I stumbled upon these maps designsponge and got so excited that the couple that makes them is from Columbus. We bought a San Francisco map and a Columbus map, as these are the cities we were officially living in when we met. I need to find frames and hang them next to each other. So romantic!

no peeps allowed!

We normally have a quiet Easter at home with an occasional visit from a relative, but this year we decided to actually do something with ourselves. A few of our friends came over with their kids to color Easter eggs and ended up having a rock-n-roll dance party. The next morning Finn woke up in search of his Easter basket. He won't eat candy, so his basket is filled with toys. He doesn't mind at all! I avoided giving Finn any sweets until he was 2 & 1/2, expecting him to want nothing else after his first taste. That was not the case! He didn't want to take part in eating candy, cupcakes or ice cream. He really only eats dry textures and some fruits. Other moms tell me that I should be thankful, but I feel like he is missing out. All of the other kids are eating cupcakes and excited to find eggs filled with candy, but Finn has a fit if anyone offers him candy. As you can imagine, It takes the fun out of so many kid related activities like Halloween, birthday parties, school parties and just going to get ice cream on a hot summer day. All of my favorite things. He doesn't seem to feel like he is missing out and I guess he'll save us lots of money on dental visits.

We ended the weekend at my sister-in-law's house for a huge Easter dinner. Finn wouldn't eat anything that was being served. He ended up eating 2 bananas. They made an amazing cake for desert and offered Finn ice cream, which of course he wouldn't eat. I ate enough for both of us. I wish I could turn down chocolate cheese cake! He had a blast and passed out from exhaustion on our way home. It was a great weekend and isn't my little guy adorable!

she fell in love with the drummer

I spent much of my early twenties crushing on boys in bands. By the time I hit my late twenties I convinced myself that I had grown up and wanted a more mature relationship, "No more late nights watching bands in bars or spending endless nights by myself while my significant other had practice or recording sessions". I was on my way to a quiet, comfortable lifestyle. You can imagine my surprise after 48 hours of meeting and immediately falling in love with Bil; he told me that he was a drummer in a band. It was too late! I had to eat my words and spend countless nights sitting in dive bars in Manhattan and Brooklyn. They were the best nights of my life and I met some of my closest friends during those years.

We moved to Orlando and the drums never made it out of the closet. Five years later, Bil thought our son Finn might enjoy playing. Finn loves music, he has an incredible memory, he is very precise and has amazing pitch. It is important to give him a constructive way to use these strengths, as Finn was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. He loves the drums! I think he's actually pretty good for a soon to be 4 year old kid. It's funny how life comes full circle. I wouldn't change anything about falling in love with that drummer in a Brooklyn hipster bar, because now I'm in love with two drummers.
